After a successful and long standing career at the BBC, producing high-end, award-winning dramas such as Keep Faith; Gwenllian Gravelle is Head of Scripted for Welsh-language broadcaster S4C. Building on the recent renaissance of Welsh drama and the S4C-led invention of Celtic noir, Gwenllian is focused on commissioning original drama that not only has a local feel but also a global world-class appeal. Her most recent commission is a compelling six-part psychological thriller starring BAFTA winning Joanna Scanlan, Alex Roach and Iwan Rheon. Y Golau (The Light in the Hall) is S4C’s first co-pro with Channel 4/APC and Sundance NOW. Her recent commission Dal Y Mellt (Rough Cut) will be the first-ever Welsh language drama to be streamed on Netflix, proving that there is an appetite for exciting quality drama regardless of language. Gwenllian is also leading S4C/Ffilm, a partnership with the Welsh Government and Ffilm Cymru to bring Welsh language films to the screen. In 2022, Gwenllian was awarded a Welsh Woman of the Year award for her contribution to the Arts and Culture.
